Heartbleed Bug

Heartbleed logo

You may have heard of Heartbleed Bug, which was recently discovered by security researchers. Heartbleed is a flaw in OpenSSL, an open-source encryption technology.

It is important to note that BTFCU servers DO NOT use OpenSSL and are not vulnerable to the virus.

We are communicating with our business partners to assure their systems are protected as well. We are committed to providing you the highest security possible to safeguard your information.

We strongly advise all members to take precautions to protect themselves using the following tips:

Change your passwords frequently
Create strong passwords that contain at least 8 characters consisting of both letters and numbers
Secure confidential information
Use industry leading fraud security products on online devices to detect any viruses
Avoid suspect websites
Ignore/delete any emails from unknown entities

Researchers believe that as a result of the Heartbleed Bug, consumer email addresses may be increasingly vulnerable to" Phishing" and Identity Theft Fraud. Click here for more information on Phishing and Identity Theft.

We will continue to post additional updates as it becomes available.

If you would like more information on the Heartbleed vulnerability, please visit heartbleed.com/.
